Wrappin' it up!

from the keyboards of misis_pb

As support to the stores for the holiday peak season, i helped out in the busiest section of the store last dec 22 and 23, the GIFTWRAPPING SECTION.

Gift wrapping is one of my favorite activities during the holidays, but doing it for almost 9 hours straight, takes out the fun already and replaces it with disgust and painful leg muscles.

About.com takes gift wrapping to the next level and runs a task analysis on it.

Weekend bonding - our 3 P's this weekend

from the keyboards of misis_pb

Weekend projects:

1.  Palitaw
(for those who don't know this, click to find)
I was not able to take  a picture, but my dad ate almost half the batch! Plus take home pa.

2.  Painting
After uying the art materials (paints and sketch pads and brushes, etc) last October, We finally got the chance to do some painting! And It was too much fun that we finished all the 20 pages of the sketch pad and filled up almost a wall along our stairs.  Thanks to Julie for her share of fun of 3 and 1/2 art works.  May i will try to take a closer photo of each just to share with everybody.  I think we will do this again.  A very good de-stressing activity.  Its just nice to see your hands filled with paint after painting.  Ada started from basic houses and flowers, pero she started doing abstracts after 3-4 basics...

3.  Polvoron
Our Saturday night out in Pergola and Ruins in BF was spent buying Polvoron ingredients and some DVDs and PS games.

But it was only last night, after dinner (around 9pm) when i got to work on Kyan's polvoron.  Yes its his because he requested for it.  And bugged me the whole day to do it.  So i did.  Finished by 10:30pm.  And here's the result.  It actually tastes good.  And i was so happy after.  Thanks to ada and manang for the assistance.  Ada helped in the molding and Manang did the wrapping.  Julie and Kyan did the eating, and Taal too!

baby-proof home

from the keyboards of misis_pb

The little boy, according to my Yaya, tried to climbed up the stairs this morning. And our house is 3-floors up!  I don't want to think of what can happen if he wakes up in the middle of his nap and crawl down or up the stairs! Terrible!

The husband called me just a few hours ago to share his concerns.  We need a gadget to "gate" our stairs.  So i stopped my work and googled "baby gadgets for stairs".

Ebay was first option for local sellers, found one at P2,500

Too expensive.... so i tried Sulit.com and found this

At 700/pc, I can buy 2! One for the first floor and one for the 2nd floor! I hope I can visit the shop in far away Caloocan, well its far casue im from Paranaque.

10 Stress-busters

from the keyboards of misis_pb

1. Before you let something really get to you, ask yourself, "Will it really make much of a difference five years from now?" So if you burned the lasagna and have to order five pizzas for all of your guests, what will they remember in five years? Your screams from the kitchen? More likely, the quick-on-your-feet fix that didn't ruin the mood.

2. Curl your toes toward the soles of your feet as hard as you can for 15 seconds, then relax. Next, progressively tense and relax your leg, stomach, back, shoulder, and neck muscles in the same fashion. These exercises can be done anywhere and in any order, and they provide both physical and mental relief. They're also a great way to help your body and mind relax before falling asleep.

3. Sit or lie in a comfortable position, breathe deeply from your abdomen, count to five, and then exhale. As you inhale again, imagine that you're pulling strength into your body and that anxiety is being forced out when you exhale. Try doing this for five minutes twice a day, or whenever you feel tense.

4. Try to relax as much as possible in a comfortable and quiet environment, with your eyes closed, and breathe quietly in a slow, rhythmic fashion. With each exhalation, repeat a simple word or sound softly or even silently. Try to do this right before you take on a big project. It'll calm you down, let you collect your thoughts, and get you motivated to tackle the task.

5. Close your eyes -- or pick a spot about 10 feet away to look at and let it go slightly out of focus -- and then say the following phrases to yourself. Repeat two or three times until you feel noticeably relaxed:

  • "My arms are heavy and relaxed." (As you say this, relax your arms and shoulders as much as possible, and wait until you feel the tension ease up.)
  • "My legs are heavy and relaxed." (As you say this, relax your leg muscles as much as possible, and wait until you feel the tension ease up.)
  • "My mind is calm and quiet." (Try to rest your mind by imagining it's like a quiet pool with no thoughts rippling to the surface).

6. Visualize that you're on a beach, listening to the waves coming in, feeling the warm sun and gentle breezes on your back. Try to make the sounds and sensations as vivid as possible; concentrate for a few minutes on the pleasure and peaceful reaction they induce. It doesn't have to be a beach -- you might prefer imagining an erotic fantasy, a prairie wheat field, or some other experience, but be sure to include all the sensuous details.

7. Smile inwardly with your mouth and eyes, and say to yourself, "Alert mind and sound body" -- and try to achieve this. Now imagine that you're taking a deep breath through a straw all the way down to your abdomen, and let your jaw, tongue, and shoulders go limp while you feel a comforting wave of warmth and heaviness sweep all the way to your toes. It takes a little practice to get this exercise down pat, but it's very effective in a short period of time. And it can be practiced anywhere as often as you like.

8. Have on hand an MP3 player or Walkman with selections of enjoyable music so you can listen to it when you're uptight.

9. If the weather is nice and the surroundings are enjoyable, take a brisk walk or go window-shopping for 10 or 15 minutes -- to create a diversion or clear your mind.

10. Not having enough time to get everything accomplished is a major stressor. But it's also important to satisfy your personal needs. Make a point of taking 20 to 30 minutes out of each day to do whatever you want, including nothing at all. Pampering yourself can prove to be not only a pleasant stress-buster, but also a powerful stress-buffer.

The husband will be gone for 2 weeks starting on Sunday. And my plan is to turn the house from its current dull stage to a festive abode. Went looking at artificial trees last weekend in Ali Mall, but they just seem to "ordinary".

Had some time surfing the web and came across this really cool site and made my creative juices come out... Sharing some rally cool ideas:

Keep Brown Sugar Soft with Orange Peels

Original Purpose: Nature's disposable packaging.
Aha! Use: Brown-sugar lifesaver. Prevent the sugar from getting hard by keeping a three-inch-long piece of orange peel in the box at all times.

Reward: Lump-free gingerbread.

Pencil Lead as Zipper Fixer

from the keyboards of misis_pb

Original Purpose: Tackling the Sunday crossword when you’re feeling tentative.
Aha! Use: Unsticking a stubborn zipper. Just rub the teeth on both sides of the zipper with a pencil (graphite is an excellent dry lubricant).
Reward: An end to zippers that have lost their zip.

A handy, who-knew guide to 77 foods, beauty products, and household goods

from the keyboards of misis_pb

Thanks to Kara for posting this.  reposting it for everyone's info.

Certain items in your house practically scream "toss me" when their prime has passed. That mysterious extra white layer on the Cheddar? A sure sign it needs to be put out of its misery. Chunky milk? Down the drain it goes.

But what about that jar of olives or Maraschino cherries that has resided in your refrigerator since before the birth of your kindergartner? Or the innumerable nonedibles lurking deep within your cabinets and closets: stockpiled shampoo and toothpaste, seldom-used silver polish? How do you know when their primes have passed?

With help from experts and product manufacturers, Real Simple has compiled a guide to expiration dates. These dates are offered as a rough guideline. The shelf lives of most products depend upon how you treat them. Edibles, unless otherwise indicated, should be stored in a cool, dry place. (With any food, of course, use common sense.) Household cleaners also do best in a dry place with a stable temperature. After the dates shown, beauty and cleaning products are probably still safe but may be less effective.

the letter from a dear friend

from the keyboards of misis_pb

This was supposedly for our Wedding site.  My friend, Riyu's message to us.  But i found it so fun to read again that I had to post it here.  For everyone's info, Muning is me, Derek is my husband, Kyan.

Muning!
100 pogi points for derek! :-) kaya sobrang happy ko na kayo pa rin talga nagkatuluyan. aba naman! kakapal ng mukha nyo, away-bati at iyak-tawa sa harap ko!  i'll never forget all the good and bad times we shared -- yung pagbagsak sa exam, problema sa acads & teachers, ang walang tulugang pagrereview (pagrereview nga ba?), kaguluhan sa TC, sa relasyon, etc., and memorable moments (many to mention) nating tatlo, namin ni muning -- pagkawala ng pera, pagkain, pagtaba, pagpayat, pambabae (ops akin lang pla 2!harhar), pamboboys, milya-milyang paglalakad, pagpapaulan, pagabsent, pagtatago ng sikreto, panunugod sa SU ng dahil sa lintek na pag-ibig ni derek w/ the brotherhood, at kung anu2 pa... . And just so you know, sila lang ang couple friends ko na never akong nailang kahit maglandian pa sa harap ko (eewww!), mag-amuyan ng kili-kili, maglambingan, at kahit all week kaming magkakasama, ayos lang ako.  o siya, masyado ng mahaba ito at kung anu-ano na ring nasabi ko.  so pano, congratulations and goodluck sa buhay may asawa at pamilya. will always be here for you:-) magmahalan ha at si ada sundin... sya ang mayor niyo:-p
